Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 21, 2012, 9:00 A.M. when Springfield Tri Club presents the 2nd annual Kohl’s Kids ‘n Control Triathlons for kids ages 5-13. New this year are two distances — a mini triathlon for kids ages 5-6, and a longer distance triathlon for ages 6-13.

Register online at active.com (closes July 19, 2012, at midnight). Registration is open to all boys and girls ages 5 to 13 (as of December 31, 2012).
OR
Complete and mail in registration form (postmarked before June 30, 2012, to avoid late fee).

Early packet pick-up will be Friday, July 20 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Lincoln Park near the Nelson Center.
Amenities
Each participant will receive a quality, multi-colored t-shirt with event logo, goodie bag and refreshments.

Race day schedule

7 – 8:30 a.m. Packet pick-up
7 – 8 a.m. Race day registration
7 – 8:45 a.m. Transition area open
8:45 a.m. Mini-race meeting in transition
9 a.m. Mini race begins (ages 5-6)
9:15 a.m. Triathlon meeting in transition
9:30 a.m. Triathlon begins (ages 6-13)
10:30 a.m. Awards and post-race celebration

Event details

Event Swim Bike Run
Mini Triathlon (Ages 5-6) 50 meters (one length of Nelson Center Pool) .6 mile 1/4 mile
Triathlon (Ages 6-13) 100 meters (two lengths (one lap) of Nelson Center Pool) 1.25 miles 1/2 mile

The first mini swimmer will start at 9 a.m. in the Nelson Center Pool and will swim one length of the pool. The first triathlon swimmer will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will swim two lengths (one lap) of the pool. Each participant will enter the pool in 15-second increments. Bike (1.25 miles; .6 mile mini) The bike course is a loop on a road contained in the park. This triathlon loop includes one downhill and one uphill. (Mini route does not include the hills.) Helmets are mandatory.
Run (½ mile; ¼ mile mini) The run is on the grass around the softball fields in Lincoln park.

Awards

First place, second place and third place awards will be given in each age category, boys and girls. Medals will be given to all finishers.

Age categories:

Mini-tri: 5 & 6 year olds
Triathlon: 6 – 7; 8 – 9; 10 – 11; 12 – 13
Based on age as of December 31, 2012. Depending on ability, 6 year olds can participate in either race.
