Abe’s Tri Series – April 18, 2010

Did you know that in 1831 Abraham Lincoln became the nation’s first multisport athlete when he accepted the challenge to run, wrestle and fight an opponent in the nearby village of New Salem Illinois?  While this may not fit today’s definition of Triathlon in which athletes swim, bike and run, the idea of multisport was born and now it’s your turn to participate as either a racer or volunteer in this exciting sport.

On April 18th, the Petersburg Triathlon Group (PTG) is hosting the first event of the 3rd annual Abraham Lincoln Triathlon Series at Petersburg’s PORTA High School.

New to triathlon or not fully trained yet?  The Abe’s Mini-Triathlon, which consists of a 100-yard indoor swim, a 5 mile bike and a 1 mile run, would be a great introduction to the sport.  For those of you ready for more of a challenge or to jumpstart your triathlon season, we offer the Pioneer Sprint which includes a 300 yard indoor swim, a 13 mile bike and a 3.2 mile run through picturesque Petersburg.

Please visit www.abestriseries.com for more race information.

While we encourage all runners to enter these races and expand their athletic horizons, we also need many volunteers.  Duties will include registration assistance, course set-up and break down, body marking, transition helpers and many bike and run course marshals.  All volunteers will receive an event t-shirt and post-race pasta dinner.

Come and be a part of the multisport evolution and the continuing Lincoln legacy.  Register online for the race or contact Ty Turek at 632-7405 to sign up as a volunteer.
